From your window sill
For some months I have tried to capture a daily habit of my neighbour. Every morning, she feeds doves from her balcony. This act takes place around 11 a.m. It’s a fixed ritual: throwing of the bread, looking at the birds, hunting off intruding seagulls by waving some household waste and then going back inside. She truly cares about the doves, almost dependent on their company, seeking it more than that of humans. And the birds seem to be strongly attached to her as well, dwelling by her window sill, day in day out.
Symbiosis (from Greek συμβίωσις “living together”, from σύν “together” and βίωσις “living”) is any type of a close and long-term biological interaction between two different biological organisms. The organisms may be of the same or of different species.
